Whether you're buying or selling a home here in Coquitlam, Burnaby, New Westminster, Surrey, Langley, or Abbotsford, you'll have a list of last minute tasks.
One of those tasks is contacting your service providers – both at your present address and your new one. Unfortunately, many buyers and sellers forget about this until it's time to move – and then there's a last-minute scramble to locate account numbers and contact numbers.
So why not take the time right now to make a master list of companies that need to be informed of the move. Note the name of the company, the customer service phone number, and your account number.
The list would include:
- Your electric power company
- City water, sewer, and garbage services
- Your cable or satellite TV and Internet providers
- Your telephone company
- Your newspaper delivery
- The post office
Don't forget also to change your magazine subscriptions and notify service providers such as a pool cleaning or yard maintenance service.
If you're a seller, providing your buyers with the current account numbers will help utility companies identify the location and keep the transition smooth. And when your buyers provide the telephone and electric company with the information they need in advance, they'll avoid the hassle of having service discontinued on moving day!
As exciting as it is to purchase or sell a home here in Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley areas, it can lead to some last-minute stress if you forget to contact one of these providers!
