Langley, British Columbia

Langley is located in southwestern British Columbia, Canada. Not to be confused with the Township of Langley, the City of Langley is an urban area neighoured by the Township and the City of Surrey.

The Fraser Highway and Highway 10 run through the City of Langley, giving residents easy access to surrounding areas. The U.S. border and the TransCanada Highway are only 15 minutes away by car.

Langley is also convenient to two major airports: Vancouver International Airport and Abbotsford International Airport.

Quality of Life

City of Langley residents enjoy easy access to green spaces, pedestrian-friendly areas and recreational activities. It has 24 parks and open spaces, totaling 346 acres.

The city has been designated a Regional City Centre by The Metro Vancouver Regional District. This gives it priority for the development of high-density housing, transit and resident services. Even though Langley's population numbers are growing, the city remains clean, stable and safe.

Residents appreciate the area's many nearby attractions, including the Fort Langley National Historic Site, the Greater Vancouver Zoo and the Canadian Museum of Flight.

The city also hosts many arts and cultural events throughout the year, such as the Langley Good Times Cruise-In (one of the top ten car shows in North America) and Arts Alive Festival, which attracts thousands of artists to the area. In the summer, music concerts are held in McBurney Plaza and Douglas Park.

Langley is also home to multiple theatres, hotels, restaurants and a casino.

Schools and Health Care

The City of Langley is part of the Langley School District. It has six public elementary schools and one public middle school. Combined enrollment is over 2,000 students. In addition, the City of Langley has seven independent elementary schools and three independent secondary schools. Its schools are highly regarded and attract students from around the world.

Langley is also home to a number of post-secondary educational institutions, including Trinity Western University and a Kwantlen Polytechnic University campus.

Langley residents have access to a full roster of health care services, including Langley Memorial Hospital and five drop-in medical clinics.

Housing

The City of Langley has experienced significant growth in multi-family residential developments, most of which are centered along main urban corridors.

In the City of Langley, single-family housing is generally located in suburban residential areas located south of the Nicomekl River. These areas offer stable, family-friendly communities with little redevelopment. Apartment rental vacancy rates are low, hovering around 1.8-percent.

About 83 percent of the population is under the age of 64 (and about 27 percent of those are under the age of 24). As a result, Langley has a young, family friendly orientation.
