White Rock is located in the southwest corner of B.C.'s Lower Mainland. It's bounded by the City of Surrey to the north, east and west; and Semiahmoo Bay to the south. It's about one hour from Vancouver (45 kilometres) and five minutes from the Canada/U.S. border. White Rock, British Columbia

White Rock has a mild climate, averaging 23°C in summer and 6°C in winter. As a result, outdoor activities are popular. The city has over 80 acres of parkland, including Promenade, Centennial and Bayview parks. Walking paths, trails and beachside promenades, with their eclectic mix of cafes and shops, are a favourite of residents.

The city has excellent recreational facilities for different activities and programs. Facilities include an ice arena, curling rink, public library and community centre. Public programs range from sports to music to visual art.

White Rock hosts many festival and events throughout the year. One of the most popular is the Fall Festival of the Arts. This two-month festival features musical performances, art exhibitions, cultural celebrations and a memorable gala.

Music concerts are also popular. Encore Peninsula Concerts is a series of six afternoon concerts of classical music held over six Sunday afternoons. Concerts at the Pier and feature top Canadian recording artists and representatives from the B.C. indie music scene.

In the summer, art and culture is evident everywhere in White Rock, with street buskers and public art displays.

Schools and Healthcare

White Rock is part of the Surrey School District. It has two elementary schools: White Rock Elementary and Peace Arch Elementary. Secondary students attend school in neighbouring South Surrey, which include Elgin Park, Earl Marriot and Semiahmoo Secondary.

Many Surrey area independent schools are located nearby, including White Rock Christian Academy, Star of the Sea Catholic School and Southridge School.

White Rock has a number of healthcare facilities, including drop-in clinics and specialized healthcare service providers. Hospitals are located in nearby Surrey.

Housing

White Rock has a wide selection of housing, ranging from estate lots to single-family homes to multiple family homes. High-density residential housing is mostly located along the waterfront and in the city's town centre. Some seaside homes feature breathtaking ocean views.

On average, White Rock's population density is 4.7 times the density of other Metro Vancouver areas. It has little vacant land for future development, so most new development is through redevelopment of existing urban areas.
